      @RaysGarage You're very welcome. I purchased a very similar model from American Pressure because of your video. My previous pressure washer wasn't working great, and I wanted to upgrade to a commercial model. I had questions on the pump like you did. I ended up going with a 4200 psi, 4 gpm, Honda GX390 engine, and the Viper pump. Just picked it up from FedEx today. One question... do I need to add oil into the Viper pump, and does it require the same oil as the engine. My other pump didn't require oil. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Ray, You have any idea how to take out the auto feed on the cross slide, mine isn't working and afraid I might have sheared off a pin, You have to pull the whole apron or can you fix it by taking the auto feed front off and get it out? Have the same lathe you have and love it. Thanks for all your videos. 👍👍👍👍

      @@RaysGarage Thanks ray , pulled the Apron, inside all is good and works, the auto selector lever puts it into drive and engages the gears, the dial on the cross slide rotates when you engage it, an the feed works manually, but not in Auto, even talked to Jody from Grizzly, really can't figure out what it could be, maybe in the cross slide but why would the cross slide rotate and work but not feed. Real bummer, if or when I find out will let you know. The drive pins are all OK, have a photo of it, but can't send here I guess, Thanks for you ideas, What about the cross slide shaft ?

      @@RaysGarage Ray, Did the shear pin check when I pulled the Apron off, and the drive line shaft with the leadscrew and power rod. All is good inside, cosmolin crap all over the worm gear, what a bunch of crap they put on it. Put it all back together last night, works perfect , no idea, unless I had the gear selector dials in the wrong position, drive rod doesn't move it a few settings. Wish they had more info on them in the manual. Know where the chart is on the machine, but like one to look at. Thanks for you input Ray, wish someone did more videos on using the Grizzly G0709 using settings, Thanks again Ray. 👀👀

      Hi Mark, I started with a completely stock 70 Nova with a 307 two barrel carb and TH350 trans, it was running and driving. My original budget with purchase of the car was $50K including all the upgrades. That budget was blown and now in it $75K with the body work and paint still not complete. I did all of the work myself except for the front end alighment, body and paint work. I could have done the car for a lot less but set out to do it right. It is amazing how the small stuff really starts adding up and also have about 2500 hours in the car to date. I hope this info helps you with your build! Best Regards, Ray

      @RaysGarage sorry, reread my post and I wasn't clear. When assembling the cabinet there is one of the many 1/4-20 screws with the square, flat faced nuts that is installed above/behind the exhaust baffle on the inside of the cabinet. Can't get fingers in there to start the nut and the angle of the screw makes using a box wrench, or long extension through the baffle, nearly impossible. What was your solution? Thanks Ray!

    Never noticed this before in your other lathe videos, but in this video it sounds like that motor is knocking. Is the cooling fan rubbing on the housing bell or something? Maybe it's my imagination, but that motor seems like it has a rough knocking aspect to it. Did this change since you made this video Ray? I know you mentioned in another video's comment that the lathe hasn't given you any major problems, but did the motor sound smooth out?

      @@RaysGarage Sweet! Great to hear, because mine just got loaded on the truck today, at the Missouri warehouse. So with any luck I should be seeing it mid/late next week here in Wisconsin. • @bluehornet6752
    @bluehornet6752 2 місяці тому

    Those contractors seem to have done top-shelf work. Everything 2x6" lumber where it matters, and I didn't see any sort of shoddiness at all. Here in Wisconsin it's pretty hit-and-miss as to who you can get, when (or if) they'll show up, and how good of a job they'll do. Every swinging d#$@ with a hammer calls himself a "carpenter" and wants to be paid $50/hr for their work. Problem is, you don't know what sort of work they'll do until after they've started, so sometimes you can get screwed and not have the time to wait for someone else. You were lucky with the painter, to be sure. You must have been a project manager in your job, in order to have all the ducks in a row for that project. Really looking great!

    I left a comment a while ago, but don't see it...maybe due to a link I put in it to the Grizzly leveling feet I ordered? I asked you how stable you find your lathe to be on those leveling feet you used? They look perfectly capable, but Grizzly recommends their G7160 leveling pad for the G0824 lathe, which is their other 14x40" lathe that's virtually identical to this one, but with a 2.01" spindle bore (and requiring more gear changes for threading). But the diameter of those feet is 4.75" so I ordered six of them for the G0709 I just ordered. Basically, I reasoned that putting the lathe on six of those leveling feet will "widen" the base about 3-4", so that's the way I went. I can't post a link to those leveling feet, as I think the post would be removed again--but that's definitely their item number. They're rated for 1300 pounds apiece, so they're perfectly capable of supporting this 1300-pound lathe--but the real attractive feature is the 4.75" diameter.

    • @RaysGarage
      @RaysGarage 2 місяці тому

      I have never had an issue with the feet I use and have them on several of my machines and fab table.

    • @bluehornet6752
      @bluehornet6752 2 місяці тому

      @@RaysGarage Roger that. I guess it comes down to how stable (overall) the thing is while sitting on the supplied lathe stand. If it's relatively stable, then the feet you chose should be just fine. I only ordered the ones from Grizzly because they recommended them in the manual for their other 14x40" machine (G0824), and that lathe is basically the exact same size and weight.

  • @bluehornet6752
    @bluehornet6752 2 місяці тому

    This lathe didn't start off being my first choice, but once I read through the manual of just about every other GS lathe they sell...I ended up ordering one today. This is in no small way due to the videos you made Ray--so thanks(!!!) for the efforts in making and uploading them. Not sure if you're still using that unit, but I'm sure there have also been changes made to the thing since you bought yours too.

    • @RaysGarage

      To date I use this lathe almost daily without one issue! I do a lot very accurate work with excellent results!

    • @bluehornet6752
      @bluehornet6752 2 місяці тому

      @@RaysGarage Great news Ray, thanks for the reply! The G0824 lathe is a newer 14x40" machine with a 2.01" spindle barrel, but requires a lot more gear changes than the G0709 does. Also the G0709 will allow you to (more easily) cut diametral pitches, meaning you can more easily cut worm shafts/screws. Since I plan to use this mainly to build model engines (and am not a gunsmith), I figured I would make much more use of its threading capabilities than the 2" spindle bore, so I went this route. I'll have to install my own DRO, and ordered the same one Grizzly uses on the G0824--but that's a one-time thing and once it's done...it's done. You have some pretty cool videos on the channel, and I am definitely following along. Sorry to hear about your injury, but am very glad you're OK. Thanks again for the reply!
